Wow, the galactic core? Wouldn't that be...rather dangerous? Even the best speculations I've read or heard, radiation, black holes and celestial density not withstanding, would mean it was was so bright that it could literally kill you.

I hope this kid has a really good map.

Well, that's a good point for certain.

I wonder how coincidental the void ring around the core is, to be honest. Rather like the Puppeteers fleeing the galaxy with their own planets, ala Larry Niven's Known Space books (primarily the Fleet of Worlds series), it shouldn't take a paranoid to figure out that something should be investigated. ;)

No coincidence, it was totally deliberate. Some races, like the Parovians, even got separated from their home world. That's why they'll refer to Caleta as "Neo-Parovia".
